Practicing
prudent medicine is the key to avoid being sued.
But at some point one of your patients will fall
into the chasm of this dangerous and
liability-ridden area of the ED. The
consequences of failing our patients in these
instances can be catastrophic to both the
patient and the family. Imagine if you
were not notified of an incidental or
"missed" finding that robbed you or
yours of a chance of survival because someone in
the ED was too busy to notify you. This is not
drama. This is not hypothetical. This is real
life and the consequences of this failure in
most ED systems play out day after day in
courtrooms around the country! Our intent is to
do no harm. Often by failing to act or even by
failing to document, we do more harm than we
could ever imagine.
ED
physicians and nurses love STATSimple! One of
the many benefits to hospitals in recruitment
and retention of MD's and RN's is to advise
prospective employees that STATSimple is being
used in the department. That means one less
burden they will be saddled with!
Two
levels of service offered based on
your patient's need as dictated by the ED
physician: STAT
and Routine.
STAT cases
are for emergencies where patient's need
to be called back immediately. Such cases
can include missed pneumothoraces. The
STAT case will have no less than five
verified and recorded phone calls placed
to the patient in 24 hours time. Routine
cases will have no less than five calls
placed in a weeks time. We have built in
guidelines for when to send certified
letters for routine cases and overnight
mail to STAT cases (in the event we are
unable to reach them by phone).
According
to JCAHO experts and consultants we have
talked with, STATSimple
is a great way to reduce
the chances that your facility will receive a
Type I citation in your ED follow-up management
procedures. To satisfy JCAHO come survey
time, you will be armed with our quarterly
reports that break down the number of cases you
referred to us, the percentage of patients we
were able to reach on the first attempt and
subsequent attempts, and those who we were
unable to reach via telephone for which we sent
a certified letter. The quarterly report is
accompanied by a CD-ROM of all files and voice
recordings captured for archival in your
department or Medical Records for later
reference if the need to defend you or your
hospital should ever arise.
Creates
more time for MD's and RN's to care for
patients... not "push paper" and
worry about tracking down patients all day.
Undeniable
proof of contacting patients and supporting
documentation showing that important and
life-saving information was passed along. This
is where most systems currently fail.
HIPAA
compliance is assured when contacting patient's
and next-of-kin-- and, the conversation is
recorded! We even record the sounds generated
from the touch-tone keypad as the phone is
dialed so that the actual number we called can
be verified if it ever needs to be!
For
an ED with only 8 regular MD's, STATSimple
costs
(on average) little more than $100 per MD per
month! How much does your malpractice policy
cost?
Ease
of use! One fax and we will be able to prove
that your patient was either contacted or
extraordinary attempts were made to contact him!
This
service is offered by an RN who was a charge
nurse in an ED in the fourth largest city in the
US. We know, uniquely, the challenges faced by
RN's and MD's in these difficult situations.

regarding this problem. Your facility or
practice could have to pay out $3,000,000 or
more for a terrible outcome due to "an
oversight". In most cases, it would take
300 years or more in monthly invoices for
services to STATSimple
to arrive at $3,000,000!
